Manage Domains
The Manage Domains page is where you set up and configure how, what and from where you monitor your domains.
From the Manage Domains page you can either select to Add a new domain (default) or select one of your domains from the Domains panel.
Add a domain
Enter the domain name in the Domain Name field, select the Subscription type of your choice from the drop-down box and press the Apply button!
A few seconds later you will be directed to the configuration panels for your newly configured domain.
Below are a few notes about what constitutes a domain name and a few hints of what is not a domain name. They might look similar but should not be confused with one another.
example.com.
These are domain names. Specifically they are 2nd level domain names, with the first level being the root (the trailing dot), the first level being the Top level domain name (like country code or generic like the .com domain.
Note: You don't have to add the trailing dot when enter the domain name in the DNSmonitor dashboard. We'll assume it's there!
www.example.com.
These are fully qualified domain names (FQDN) which in these instances points to a specific host.
If these names should qualify as domain names that would mean that the www and dashboard entries are subdomains to example.com and dnsmonitor.com respectively.
www.example.com/index.htm
These are URL's or Uniform Resource Locators (usually prefixed with a http:// or a https://) and are used to locate instances on a server. An URL usually is comprised of a domain name, a host name and a search pattern (after the slash).
Domain panel
When a domain is selected its monitoring configuration is displayed in the Domain panel.
NAME SERVERS
Display all listed name servers for the domain with names and IP addresses. The list is created by the configuration engine.
DOMAIN ID
The specific ID for the domain. When using the API this is an important piece to use. Use the copy icon to the right to copy the ID to clipboard.
SELECT LOCATIONS
The scrollable list show the available and configured locations from where the domain is monitored. When creating a new domain object for monitoring the configuration engine select three default locations to remove any hassle in the configuration process. If you're not pleased with the default locations you can select to add or change the monitoring locations to any of the available locations. The number of locations will increase during 2022 as we add additional locations to our service.
Note: The minimum number of locations must always be three!

The Reconfigure should only be used when the DNS infrastructure have changed. Changes to the DNS infrastructure include, but are not limited to:
- A DNS server is added
- A DNS server is removed
- A DNS server have an IP address changed
A reconfiguration must be triggered manually. This is by design so that the DNS monitoring service can alert if any unsolicited changes happens to the DNS infrastructure.
A reconfiguration will create a new configuration set with default settings and cannot be undone.

The Delete domain button will destroy the current monitoring object and its associated objects. The action is irreversible.
Host name integrity checks panel
In the Host name integrity check panel you configure all host names you wish to monitor.
The configuration engine will query the host names IP or CNAME from each configured location in order to establish the expected responses which in turn is stored in the configuration database.
This is done this way since the DNS can be configured to respond with different data based on the source IP address of the querying party.
Host ID
The specific ID for the Host name resource record. This ID is used to identify the specific record when using the API.
Host name
The name of the host.
Delete the Host resource record. This action cannot be undone.

The Add domain button will open an input box to add additional host names.
5 host names are included in the Premium subscription fee. Additional host names are possible to add for a fee.
1 host name is included in the Basic subscription fee. Additional host names are possible to add for a fee.
You can't configure any host names in the Free subscription plan.
Add the host name in the text box and click on the Add button to add another host name.
